Primera Línea is inspired by the Mediterranean seaside town where I now live. It focuses on speculation and rapid development and its effect on the coastal landscape. The contradictory nature of the place interests me: the natural features which attract people to the area in the first place are less and less in evidence as it becomes more popular. The mood is ambiguous – on the one hand the sandy beach is blighted by the presence of enormous high-rise blocks, but the warm, cosy lights convey a message of contented holidaymakers, seemingly unperturbed by the destruction of the coastline.
